Kalanggaman Island is located in the Western part of Leyte.
This is also known as the most beautiful beach Palompon Leyte has to offer. It
is so-called the “Virgin Island”; having the turquoise sea, crystal clear water
and a very fine white sand.
Kalanggaman Island has
one of the longest sandbars among the other white sand island in the
Philippines. It has sandbar on both sides resembling to the wings of a bird making it look like a bird in
an aerial view. That is the reason
why its name is “Kalanggaman” (langgam in Cebuano means bird).

I’ve been to the Island four times
already and I still want to go there again and again. Unlike the other beach resorts,
Kalanggaman is not always crowded. When you get here, especially if it is not
the peak season, you’ll feel like you’re the owner of this beautiful Island.
You can do everything you want including swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and of
course you can take the best shots this Island has to offer. Selfie lovers will surely like this Island. π

The very first thing to do if you are planning to visit this pristine Island is to call first Palompon’s Ecotours Office for reservation of pump boat. If you are 10 pax and more you can book one pump boat but if you are only less than 10, you can ask the officer if you can arrange to share a boat with other passengers to save money and you can also ask for other important inquiries.

Boat ride from this point to
Kalanggaman Island takes about an hour. If the sun is out during your travel,
make sure to bring your sunnies.
Once you arrive at the Island, you
need to look for a beautiful spot where you feel comfortable since you will be
staying in the Island for a little while. I usually look for a spot where there
is a a shade of the tree since it will really be sunny during noon time.
Prepare your tents, if you have any.
You can rent chairs and tables. Don't worry there will be people who will help
you, they are really approachable. And if you need something or if you have
questions, just feel free to approach them. They usually stay in the coast
guard station.
Now it's time for you to enjoy the
beach. In going home, make sure to keep your area clean. Yes, there are people
assigned to do the cleaning but let us also be a responsible tourist here. π
