Travel to Palompon: Cafe Umberto

Travel to Palompon Leyte Philippines
Cafe Umberto
Another popular eat-out place in Palompon, Leyte is Café Umberto located in their main road, Rizal St., Guiwan 2. You can immediately see the café because it’s quite big (compared to other establishments in town).

What I like in this café is its ambiance. This Italian restaurant has interiors like any ideal coffee shop. The place is actually great for selfies and what-not. Their pizza is good. Still understaffed, you need to wait a little longer for your orders but you are not in a hurry anyway.

Travel to Kalanggaman Island: Staying overnight in Kalanggaman Island

Travel to Kalanggaman Island Philippines
Kalanggaman Island
If you are planning to go to Kalanggaman and you are still thinking whether to have a day tour or to stay in the Island overnight, then this post will help you out.

I’ve been to Kalanggaman Island four times already but I only experience overnight there, once and I would love to experience it again. If you’ll ask me, it’s better if you’ll stay there overnight to really enjoy the Island (that is, if you have the time).
Why? Because you will really love the view of the night sky here. Just make sure that you’ll go there not during the rainy season. If you also don’t want to make your skin tanner, then you can go on swimming after sunset and also another swimming session early in the morning the next day. Isn’t that a great idea?

Sunset in Kalanggaman Island

Sunrise at Kalanggaman Island

Pros for staying overnight in Kalanggaman Island:
  • You’ll be able to experience the beauty of the sunrise and the sunset at this paradise.
  • Stargazing with your family and friends will really be memorable.
  • You can capture more beautiful photos, especially during sunrise and sunset.
  • You can swim-all-you-want without worrying about your skin.

Cons for staying overnight in Kalanggaman Island:
  • There is no electricity in the Island so you’ll experience a survivor-kind of life.
  • You need to bring more food.
  • You need to bring power bank because I’m sure you’ll need one for your phones and cameras.

Tips: Noon time is the time where the sun is really hot when you are in the Island, so to avoid that, you can go to the Island in the afternoon (2pm-4pm is okay) just ask for the availability of the pump boat at the Ecotours office. You just have to bring food for dinner and breakfast and don't forget your midnight snacks. 😋

But if you prefer to stay there longer, you can go there early in the morning. So now, you need to bring more food: for lunch, afternoon snacks, dinner, midnight snacks and breakfast.

There is a grilling area in the Island, you can use it. You can also bring butane stove if you want or you can just bring ready-to-eat food.

Travel to KALANGGAMAN ISLAND: The virgin Island of Palompon Leyte, Philippines

Kalanggaman Island is located in the Western part of Leyte. This is also known as the most beautiful beach Palompon Leyte has to offer. It is so-called the “Virgin Island”; having the turquoise sea, crystal clear water and a very fine white sand.

Kalanggaman Island has one of the longest sandbars among the other white sand island in the Philippines. It has sandbar on both sides resembling to the wings of a bird making it look like a bird in an aerial view. That is the reason why its name is “Kalanggaman” (langgam in Cebuano means bird).

I’ve been to the Island four times already and I still want to go there again and again. Unlike the other beach resorts, Kalanggaman is not always crowded. When you get here, especially if it is not the peak season, you’ll feel like you’re the owner of this beautiful Island. You can do everything you want including swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and of course you can take the best shots this Island has to offer. Selfie lovers will surely like this Island. 😁

Boat ride from this point to Kalanggaman Island takes about an hour. If the sun is out during your travel, make sure to bring your sunnies.
Once you arrive at the Island, you need to look for a beautiful spot where you feel comfortable since you will be staying in the Island for a little while. I usually look for a spot where there is a a shade of the tree since it will really be sunny during noon time.
Prepare your tents, if you have any. You can rent chairs and tables. Don't worry there will be people who will help you, they are really approachable. And if you need something or if you have questions, just feel free to approach them. They usually stay in the coast guard station.
Now it's time for you to enjoy the beach. In going home, make sure to keep your area clean. Yes, there are people assigned to do the cleaning but let us also be a responsible tourist here. 😊
